Step 1
Have patient lift tongue upward. Position the tongue deflector where needed for retraction and move tongue away from working area. Place smooth side of deflector against the tongue.
Once the tongue is positioned properly, slide the mouth prop over the teeth on the opposite side of the mouth and have the patient bite on the mouth prop holding it in place.
Example: If you are preparing a crown on #30, retract the
tongue away from this area and slide the mouth prop over the tooth #20. Have
the patient bite down to hold the aspirator in place.
